Ricky Dávila parts from the view that is characteristic of journalists, work which he has been doing with success and that includes a World Press Photo Prize in 1994. His has centred his view on an analitical perspective on contemporary society with socio-political contents and anthropological portraits which can be seen in his series titled “Manila”. This body of work has been exhibited at the Canal de Isabel II in Madrid and the catalogue that was released has been awarded the best photographic edition by Photoespaña 2005.
Without a common theme, the selected works show diverse and spontaneous subjective expressions about reality. Far from concrete discourses, they search a premeditated variety of ways of looking. Landscapes, portraits, interiors, situations that finally define with precision the wide array of personal interests Ricky Dávila has.
Ricky Dávila has shown his work at Caixa Galicia, A Coruña in 2000. Reina Sofia Contemporary Art Center, “España ayer y hoy” in 2000. Venice Biennale, “Ofelias y Ulises” in 2001. Manila, “Spanish Eye” in 2001. Canal de Isabel II Madrid “Manila” in 2005. MACUF A Coruña “Manila” in 2005. MUSAC “Sujeto” in 2005.
He is co-editor of the magazine “Submersia” about culture and tendecies. He has published three books of his photographic work:
“Retratos” (portraits) Ed. Gran Sol. 2003.
“Ricky Dávila” PhotoBolsillo. 2005.
